The world rulers are the group of humans that at that time held the upper hand and essentially held everyone else in slavery. This is `might makes right`. If this is Satan, then satan is the domination of peoples with inferior means to conduct war by peoples with superior means to conduct war.
Some may claim that these peoples are only flesh and blood. But many of would claim that there is a cosmic power behind the flesh and blood influencing their thinking to believe that since they had superior firepower they also had the right to rule. That is the darkness that has pervaded the world up until only the recent past.
There were glimmers of enlightenment along the way. Alexander was one who as I read history seemed to enlisat the cooperation of conquered peoples by treating them with respect and protecting them. But for the most part throughout history to the victors went the spoils including the souls.
Now to perhaps make an outrageous claim, this is the history of evolution as put forth by Darwin. The superior species got the available resources. Likewise, throughout history the superior members of the human species trampled over the other members of our species. So I claim that human history and evolution of the species follow a common path, and in fact both may be described by the theory of evolution. That is the connection to satan.
Whether the world was created in 6 datys or six million years, satan has ever since ruled by means of war between the species and within the species. Most recently we have Hitler trying to render another race within our species extinct- perhaps the finest example of satan as well as the process of Darwin`s theory of evolution within the human species.
So whether you believe that the world was created 10,000 years ago or 10 million years ago, we can agree that ever since human history began it has conformed to the popular model of how evolution happens. And in terms of the thinking of Christian fundamentalists, human progress through warfare is the work of satan. For the rest of us it is simply evil.
Perhaps the result of inherent genetics responsible for `fight or flight`, our inherent original sin is the fear of losing, which makes us too intent on winning at any cost. Couple that to pride and the addiction of power and the result is evil. It seems to be inherent in almost all of us. Only most of us do not have the opportunity to express it. |
