He does not say you will live “it” (the life you hate) forever.
This passage is about being not being born again and
being born again wherein you receive Christ into your heart,
hating your old life(dying to it) and living for Jesus in newness of life(bearing fruit) having received eternal life.
( Someone that has never been born again has ONLY an old life. )
If you love your old life, you will not die to it. (i.e., not born again )
Thus you will lose it. When anyone dies that has never been born again,
they have no more life, thus, they lose it.(life)

I hate my “old life”. That life without the Holy Spirit dwelling in me.
