I'm only saying what experts in the field are saying. The identity of Moses in history is very unclear, and probably he did not exist as the person who led Israel out of Egypt. The evidence is overwhelming, as I understand it, that the Exodus as it is commonly conceived did not occur. Was there people migrating, probably, but there were also a tremendous amount of integration of local tribes. The evolution of religion in the area is difficult to know, but it appears that nothing recognizable as a monotheistic Judaism (or the religion of the Pharisees) existed even 200-300 years before Jesus. |
