I just read this which reminded me of Aurino's response:

I sort of like the notion that the universe is a buckyball. Buckyballs are known for their spherical approximation (possessing the most volume with the least surface area) as well as their ruggedness. It's one of the reasons why these structures are so common in nature. Anyway, personal tastes have not much to do with the final answer to the question.
