Just one example for starters. Machiels makes the statement:

"As far as I know science was invented to explain phenomena by physical laws and, if possible, to use scientific knowledge for human profit. I can find no phenomenon explained by relativity theory or quantum theories and I can find no scientific or economical application of these theories. "

So I offer the transister, which is based entirely on quantum theory, as a prime example of economical application of these theories, resulting in huge monetary and material human profit.

We should take Machiels at his word. He just does not know.
