Case in point:
We accept that computation (logical and intuitive/ right or wrong)
in human brains, along with a few more steps,
CAUSES major events on Earth -- fewer, maybe
than Earth's own tectonics and weather fluctuations, but
1) if human computation is not
simply a mechanical working of the universe,
then there might be continuing exponential growth in human influence over matter and energy -- plotted on a graph along with the human learning curve.
2) if human computation IS simply a mechanical working of the universe, it appears that this computation itself is a phenomenon which might be occurring in other sufficiently complex electrical grid patterns which somehow acquire self-awareness and hence motivation to "think."

In part for these reasons, I have appreciated the writings of Alan and Dr. Dick and some others here. They keep the mental cobwebs from acquiring too great a load of dust!
