Hi Harv,

Sorry I don't have time to read all of your dialog with Dick completely, much less get involved in the conversation much myself, but I'd like to make a quick comment on your post.

"I used the term 'psychodelic [sic] known data' and 'psychodelic [sic] unknown data'."

It seems pretty clear to me, just from this statement where you and Dick are failing to communicate. When you introduced those terms you did two things which confused the communication.

First, you changed Dick's words 'knowable' and 'unknowable' to 'known' and 'unknown'. It is partly your failure to see the diffence in meaning between these two that prevents you from understanding Dick's work. Only after you can understand the difference, can you proceed to try to understand what Dick means by the words he chose.

Secondly, you added the adjective 'psychedelic' for some reason that is not clear to me. Whatever the reason, it only distracts your attention from the words you changed (e.g. 'unknowable' to 'unknown'). This distraction not only will tend to make you overlook the changes you made, but draws you even further away from the problem you have in understanding the original words in the first place.

So we have Dick trying to get you to understand what he means by 'knowable' and 'unknowable' and you first change the words and then add what could be taken to be a trivial or mocking adjective to further get in the way of communication. I don't know what Dick's reaction to this was, but it would be understandable to me if it were exasperation.

Warm regards,

Paul
