Lukewarm, Neither Hot Nor Cold

[16] So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.

My interpretation of this scripture is that god prefers humans to be either very much for him or very much against him, as long as you are willing to stand up and defend your beliefs. Therefore an agnostic or know nothing is lukewarm and distasteful. It follows that beliefs are not so important as your willingness and courage to stand for what you believe in.

Many of us think that ALL THAT MATTERS IS BELIEF.
This scripture seems to say that unbelief is just as good as belief as long as it is practiced ardently.

Personally I think that the moral and charitable atheist has an advantage over believers as his or her actions are not for the selfish motives of getting into heaven. Can us believers ever be sure that our good acts are not for selfish reasons???
