Definetly. Ego is a part of natures process. It either gets us killed or saves us. Process of elimination. We would like to believe that our intelligence creates our ego or vice versa, but they are merely natural (carnal or pysiological) behavior used to determine (or mistaken as) our actions. In short, if you have a chemical imbalance and determine you are this invinsible person that can fly and decide to jump of a building, hey, you just got eliminated from natural selection. But we intelligent humans, after developing a system of cultural mores and beliefs think that we have abolished that natural process. Not quite. We would like to think so...just watch...time will be the judge. If there are answers to found in these questions we should be discussing anthropology, psychology, history, and medicine in this forum. How can we determine truth, a god, or whatever when we can`t even understand ourselves. Perception is on as good as your body will let you. Can a blind man see?

If I understand your question correctly, is there (a) god that intervenes? This world is all that matters to me, what (a) god might think...I have enough problems worrying about all of you guys...hehe :-).
