"defeating The Earthly Desires" Does WHAT For Us?

I thought Christian theology says God had to experience human life and did so through Jesus.
Luther supposedly held that God could use our various desires to motivate us toward His goals.
The difference between a desire for immortality and a desire for sensual gratification may be only a variety of the same thing -- self-gratification as distinct to ultimate spiritual
goals, whatever you and your God believe them to be. It always seems strange to suggest that
something is truer than this world which is
1) difficult to prove rigorously and
2) difficult to find for mapping purposes.
But I believe.
