I Can't Even Fix The Garage Door Opener Without New Parts

Lately, I've heard the best self-replicator with human-level intelligence might be...a rocket ship piloted by a human being!
Although... Tonight I can't even fix the garage door opener with the new parts we ordered, so I have to stop working on that and I'm returning to my other mandatory activity
-- a job search.
I ended one chapter in my novel with this line about a sentient spaceship: "Kalex went out into the galaxy to look for a job."
