Aren't you lumping an entire group of people together because of a blurry similarity? Isn't your timing facile and convenient? Isn't your sloppiness like saying, "the Renaissance would have lasted longer if the Mafia hadn't mucked it up," or "the best basketball players were brought to America by slave traders"?
