Especially considering Christianity didn't really take hold until centuries after the reported death of Jesus/"Jesus"

By this time there's really no way to accurately know how distorted the tales became over those long years. Whether or not the central figure in what was mostly word of mouth for two or three centuries - the New testament - really existed is virtually impossible to tell, but even if Jesus WAS a real person, and acted 1/100th the way the NT says he did, then he was obviously a sick person with good intentions.
