He could as well have said:

"Those who seek food, fail to find food"

"Those who run, fail to run"

"Those who try to talk, fail to talk"

"Those who try to be employed, are not employed"

And so on and on. But assuming your reply was meant as sarcasm, all I can say is that someone dismissing a book for not going "straight to the point" makes a fool of himself.

"Woman falls in love with man. Parents object to marriage. Woman pretends to kill herself. Man thinks woman has really died and kills himself. Woman wakes up, finds lover dead, and kills herself, for real this time"

It takes three hours to tell that simple story in a theatre. They could just as well give people a short, straight-to-the-point synopsis like the one above, and have everyone go home earlier. They might be able to catch Jeopardy, which is as straight to the point as you get.
