" How can what the ordinary man on the street contradict this scientific explanation when the ordinary man experiences apparently random events throughout their lives "

Quickly, because the ordinary man never experiences creation as a result of apparently random events, he only experiences destruction. Intelligence and purpose beget order and beauty, but randomness only begets chaos.

Now the die-hard evolutionist comes and says, order and beauty only exist in your head, in truth it's just a big disorder out there. But the die-hard evolutionist misses the simple, logical fact that if "beauty" and "order" only exist in our heads, then so does "disorder" and, for that matter, "heads" themselves. In trying to undermine the believer's position, all the skeptic manages to achieve is to undermine his own.

But you really, really have to read Chesterton; he explains it with far more logic and flair than I possibly can.
