Not to discuss the issue of how technology is gradually being abused in a big brother fashion and how that might interfere with our freedoms (e.g., religious freedoms). No one in our government is intentionally thinking along these lines, but the problem is abuse that comes later for different reasons. Once precedence is set, it can move to eradicate our freedoms. I respect those who are trying to make us safe. Its a tough job, but these folks need to hear from us who are concerned about our civil liberties. There's not this "us vs. them", it's how can we best protect ourselves while guaranteeing that others after this generation might rise up to use the Patriot Act for purposes that it was not intended.

The government is overall good from what I can tell. I don't question their character, I question the character of those who might come later. That's why we must be careful in what we might be letting in the door without knowing.
