What exactly are the arguments against the possibility that the Universe has always existed?
This question takes into consideration the fact that we do not know if there is an end/limit to the universe, but that as far as we can currently see there only seems to be more of it in all directions from our planet. It also assumes that if the big bang did occur, that it was not all encompassing of matter, space, or time, meaning it was a local event which occurs at other points in the universe as well. If this is ever shown to be the most probable theory in the future and becomes the accepted version of scientists worldwide and then is accepted by theologins, what changes do you think this might cause in scientific/religious thinking/thoery/worldview? Might it alter the concept of space and time, dimensional thinking so that our concept of time and the theory of realativity as well as quantum physics and all that is dependent upon these theories for thier acceptance to be altered in such a fashion as to accept the fact that there is only one dimension in space and time, that of distance, speed, location and rate of change which is currently dependent upon the locational perceptions encapsulated in the present?
