Consciousness -- A Thought Experiment-missing Link

I have a problem with your thought experiment.
I can replace all the parts of a brain but the part that is aware.
It is not a question of speed or information retained.
If it was the program could be run and the computer would be aware but just thinking slower.
Try as I might I was not able to conceive even theoretically the simulation which would be aware of itself.
Without this key component your thought experiment fails.

I am not saying it will never be understood.
It is much more complicated then I had originaly thought it would be.
