Hi Paul,
ya whote:
"I think the biggest part of the mystery you present is the real identity of the "we" which each of us experiences as an "I". I think we are a long way from understanding what is going on there."
Which neuros-somatic/semantic circuit is a person operating at?
We: The creatures having a similar molecule in their blood? This binds the animal and plant kingdoms together. But they are often working at cross-purposes to one another.
We: The members of my ethnic, religious, color (or any) group, But they are often working at cross-purposes to one another.
We: The cells of my body? Even they sometimes
are working at cross-purposes...
It is an interesting phenomenon, that if a person feels, rightly or wrongly, that he has been
insulted on the basis of his accidental membership in an ethnic/religious/color (or any) group, he can either
1) feel that his entire ethnic/religious/color (or any) group should, bristle, get their hackles up, and muster and mobilize to crush the insulter - or -
2) reject the insult as illogical, since, as a citizen of the regions of higher mind, he actually is not defined by accidental membership in that ethnic/religious/color (or any) group,
and he therefore simply takes pragmatic, moderate steps which good logic and intuition indicate.
I hope soon to read and respond to your more recent, longer message. |
