More connected, or disconnected from each other?

That is with respect to online technology?

OK, so now that n% of households/businesses are "online", I ask, are we bringing each other closer to one another, or distancing ourselves from one another?

Some benefits of being online:

1. Being able to get a message from one place to another is inherently faster, almost instant (chat & email).

2. Shopping is easier.

3. Data/Information (regardless of the validity of data/information) is easier to get to and more abundant.

So, just a few benefits are listed, but is there a breakdown of human relations? Will people end up relating to machines better than they would fellow man (in the future)?
