Hi Tim,

I wrote my "don't let your mind..." post as a piece of friendly advice to someone who, in my judgement, tends to get confused with his own ideas, to overwhelm himself with his own imagination. Imagination is a wonderful thing but too much of it can do more harm than good. At some point you have to check your imagination against something real, otherwise you'll end up wandering aimlessly through the emptiness of the sky or, worse, run out of fuel and hit a place you're not supposed to hit.

That is what I wanted that person to understand. And you're right, it's just like a missile guidance system - guessing is good, but checking your guesses against a real target is fundamental.
