Risking hypocrisy, as a loyal U.S. patriot
I condemn the Iraqi behavior described above.
While it is true the U.S. has taught torture
techniques in some of our spy schools, Iraq
has so few chances for a "moral advantage"
in the public mind that they must not mistreat American P.O.W.s.
Our President's administration, while we might speak unfavorably about him at times, has very
frightening power which has hardly begun to be
tapped. This power is not President Bush's
but he is the steward of it. I believe Iraq cannot expect public opinion to help them survive these hard times if they are not merciful
to the poor prisoners, even in the face of this tragic onslaught. It is not fair, but that seems to be true. It speaks right to the reason
that this war is happening. Iraq became vulnerable because the world perceived this pattern.
