we can kill civilians, we can carpet bomb, but thank God we don't want to.
also we don't need to. technology has advanced to the point where it isn't necessary. of course technology isn't perfect and errors occur so civilians will unfortunately die and be maimed.

as you pointed out errors have been made in the conduct of the war and diplomatic errors have been made. timing has been off. poor timing especially in the diplomatic arena, which has lead to loss of the element of suprise in the war and problems in coordinating troop movements and even air attacks.

the objective, removing Sadamm, establishing a new government is going to take longer and the longer it takes the more problematic it is going to be, both diplomatically and with respect to the conduct of the war.
