If you have a PC. hold down the alt key and type a 236 on the number pad (at the same time) ∞, and then take your finger off the alt key. an ∞ symbol should appear as the next character. I do not know about mac.

The ∞ symbol is part of the extended ascii set.

here is a list of all the ascii characters:

the first 128 characters (on this site) are listed for use within html (notice the &# prepended to each number) but you can use the number in the same fashion as listed above to get the character you wish. The latter 128 are just listed by number.
