"It appeasrs instead that there is another presently unknown force causing the expansion."

Why not God as that force?

"Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out;..." Isaiah 42:5

"I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded." Isaiah 45:12

"And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens..." Isaiah 51:13

"He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion." Jeremiah 10:12

"He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding." Jeremiah 51:15

I think he is still streaching the universe which is why it is expanding at an accelerating rate.
