Jesus said that you had to keep all the commandments of Moses to get into heaven. By keeping all those comandments, you would be following Jesus.

Paul changed that requirement into just belief in Jesus.

Paul also changed the religion of Jesus from one that was basically subversive for nation states to one that supported nation states. That is when Christianity took off, when emperors and kings could use the religion to control the masses.

Regarding sin, my thought is that nature is full of sin. Species killing other species and within their own species. However, at one point humans attained enough consciousness and intelligence to realize that it was sinful. Before that they were just behaving instinctfully and not really responsible. After that they continued killing, but also realized that it was sinful. So religion was invented to justify killing, either sacrifices or the other guys who had a different religion and deserved to be killed.

All religions contained god commandments to kill. The jews were told by god to commit the first recorded genocide, killing not only all people, but also all animals. The Bagavata Gita justifies war. Islam justifies war. Jesus may be the exception. But Paul changed all that. The Crusades are evidence of that..
