***Hi Bzrd, there have been so many I am sorry to say that have died for what they believe in, crusifiction, burned at the stake, slowly eaten away with acid, feed to lions, tigers, crocks...
As far as the bible is concerned, if it were from another time or domain, surely it would have something significant to offer humankind?
***As far as prophesy and coincidence, the bible is written in such a fashion as to allow virtually any interpretation one wishes, so if one wants to believe that the old prophesies are currently being realized, then it is an easy connection, todays phone psyhcics can lead many to believe they have some special power of perception and know peoples personal futures, and then people live thier lives in the direction that has the best chance of fulfilling these prophesies.
***On the issue of logic, logic is not some law of the universe, but a method for understanding how the universe functions, and it is illogical for one to hold that it was created or even simply just came into being all of a sudden from some change in a vast nothingness. Logic, when viewed with everthing that we are aware of in our built up body of knowledge, confirms that the universe has always existed, and that coincidence is only an illusion of our system of percieving patterns.
***As for the universe being mindless, it is, it simply follows a few laws which cannot be broken without intelligence/manipulation. Our intelligence, or if you believe that we were helped, the intelligence that helped us, is nothing more than a natural phenomenon.
***As far as intellectual satisfaction, sometimes the truth is not very glamorous, and theological satisfaction is much different than this, but truth is still truth (understanding based on reality). There was a time when we as a species had no language, no words, no intelletual need for satisfaction, was god waiting for one of the species on earth to reach the point of self awareness and then become special to it? Were we the first to reach it the point of selfawareness and intelligence? In a not so distant time we were more like the rest of the animal kingdom, so as far as us being special in a supreame beings mind, what makes us more special or deserving of gods intrest and thought (even now) than the ant or the butterfly? One realistic reason and I will be satisfied with your argument. What was gods purpose for us being (supreamely) different?
