Organs Are Far Older Than That

As far as a few centuries BC in fact. But I'm quite sure the name Organum as applied to plainchant has nothing to do with the instrument itself.

I don't know much about the history of the use of organs in the church. Organs are not very popular these days so one doesn't read much about them other than how awful they sound. But your post stirred my curiosity, I'll do some research.
