Since I am part of the peace movement, I will go first (borrowing a quote):
"I am AGAINST the death penalty, and I would like our friends, the would-be murderers, to join us in taking the first step." We should be willing to dance with them, but we should not be willing, as a country, to die for the privilege. Therefore, we will have to be ready to dispatch any dance partner who is trying to kill us, or (metaphorically) dance lovingly with any trustworthy dance partner.
