Fair enough, though empires often overlap each other, it's not like one takes off where the other leaves off. Persia and Greece and Egypt coexisted for quite some time, China and India have been around forever, etc. (are we in the American age now?)

Understandable, I'd imagine it was left the way it is (1 AD = 1 CE) just to avoid confusing people and creating as little backlash as possible.
