10% isn't correct. That may include agnostics as well. I believe you are quoting from a study that was found to be a bit inaccurate.

However, rising percentages in atheism is found to be proportional to education. Most importantly, this crunch religion is feeling is relatively new.

Science is learning information at nearly an exponential rate. This all started about in the late 1800's. So for less than 120 years, religion has slowly begun to bump up against science. And within another 50 or so, it may be in dire need for a refitting.

As for evolution and god, in a recent poll conducted by Cincinatti, over 90% of the scientists polled said that evolution was consistent with religion. In other words, most them believe in god and evolution.

And while an alarming percent of the US population believes that evolution is a lie, I believe 25 or 33% of the nation also believes the Holocaust is a lie as well. Strangely enough, I wouldn't doubt that there'd be a significant overlapping with those two opinions.
