He Is Not Talking About Evolution

His thoughts apply more to physics than biology. For example, physics uses particles that flow backwards in time. A patently absurd idea. Yet it is used because it derives a testable theory that tests correctly.

He is talking about the possibility of divinity in all of science, not just the history of the earth.

The facts of evolution are undeniable. He is suggesting that by assumption we rule out the possibility of devine guidance in the creation of scientific facts. These facts include astronomical and geological observations like the fossile record and the approximate historical time of the existence of the species that used to exist.

So he is suggesting that the theory based on pure materialism is an assumption.

We may also base a theory on creationism. But we cannot base it on Genesis taken literally as the facts of evolution prove that the literal account of creation in Genesis is incorrect.

But even more fundamental, that facts of astronomical observations prove scientifically that the literal account of creation in Genesis is incorrect.

Whether the universe is purely materialistic or not is still an open question in science. My belief based on science is that it is not. But most scientists make the assumption that it is.
