I read in "History of time", by Stephen Hawkins, that some years ago the Vatican accepted the explanation for the creation of the Universe according to scientific theories, from the Big Bang til now. That is (my conclusion), discarded the Genesis as a source of factual truth. I don't have the book with me now, and anyway, does someone know something more about that matter? I believe Hawkins's word, but I would like to have more precise information.
