If you want to answer his delusions, it's probably just good practice for you. If he's sincere, he will come around.
I choose instead to observe that his scientific method is wrong. He does not rely on
confirmed facts or a system with fewest contradictions, but instead on
cherished beliefs, leaps of faith, and stubbornness. I have no strong emotional investment in preferring old earth to young earth.
It simply is how the evidence truly stacks up.
Sam represents himself not as following the scientific method but instead as not being
accountable to it.
The argument is one of many. One must apply methods and rigor to be accountable. There is no
way to be accountable if the whole system does not
track to its beginning. Creationism seems to spring out of books that were Oral History 'til
about 900 BC or later. Genesis wasn't even written until almost all of it had supposedly passed into antiquity. It's not science.
