Your question about sentient life
is so fun! If you get time and inclination,
I will participate if you start a new thread with it? Or...if you don't, then
wherever it can be discussed, this topic stretches our limits just to puzzle on it!

Regarding the oldness of life:
Last I read, geologists and biologists have found evidence of life in layers they've dated at least 3.2 billion years old on Earth.

They write that around 600 million years ago,
there was a "Big Bang of Animal Evolution,"
diversity increases greatly
in the animal fossil record.
