Sam quoted:
"First, how could the woodpecker have evolved its special shock-absorbers? If it had started without them, then all the woodpeckers that were alive would have beaten out their brains long ago."
This is not biology, Sam, and it's not logic.
First of all, you posted this in reply to my post.
In that post, I tried to show why the idea of
"species" should be deemphasized in favor of an idea that changes flow through time.
At one time, there were birds that were developing into woodpeckers...but they were not woodpeckers. If you don't know much about how small changes in engineering design can be created in increments along a continuum, and then
the most successful model selected for production, then you won't comprehend that this occurred in a similar way in nature...with a lot of waste...but there were plenty of generations
for all the less advantageous forms to dwindle in number. Now, unfortunately, while denying
the whole concept of design by trial and error, many religious folks make design decisions to harm parts of nature and humanity that really work quite well. For example, it is an example of natural catastrophe, which can actually reduce the quality of our human gene pool, to have conservative Christians or Muslims doggedly seize the reins of public debate and try to de-legitimize "liberals," "Westerners," and "environmentalists." They actually attack
some good folks on purpose, because they are good.
Talk about a negative influence on God's Evolution!
