Without precise definitions for words like "Sin"
and "Believe" (for a start)
religion is just a way for beasts to rule by letting multiple standards flourish under pretense of universality -- intuition and mob preference over-run reason to create a world where "nature" is considered the endorser of their "system" when instead, the reverse is true. Some of them have endorsed savagery and dressed it up with inconsistency.

In order to be considered pious, you must also
appreciate the prose they've selected to commemorate your capitulation to their personal
earthly authority as interpreters of the Creator's Will...authority which had previously been your own birthright as well as their own.

So rather than being a system, religion is an enabler for demagoguery, with many extra words thrown.
So what is the purpose of religion? If there is
a good purpose, it is different than normally practiced.
