Hi Mike,

***1) Are you saying there's no need for boards to rest on the banks?***

No. The boards have to rest on the banks. The first board overlaps the bank at each end by a triangle with the dot as one vertex and the corner of the board as another vertex. Draw a sketch and it's easy to see.

The second board has to rest on the inside bank and I allowed the amount of epsilon/2 for that.

***2) Are you saying wider boards would not allow the walkway to reach farther?***

No. In the section for advanced students, I covered the effect of wider boards. The wider they are, the farther they will reach.
