If you think 3D then the ground completes one side of the triangle, thus allowing you to use more toothpicks for additional triangles.

Good job Luis. By the way, I found Alex posting there a long time ago, but I figured that he wanted off this forum for his own personal reasons and just let him go his own way. No reason to torment him further than he already was.
