"get across VIA the boards." Your solution might enable the closest board to be retrieved, but the one crossing the corner would probably not be retrieved. :)
Oh-h-h-h, are you solving the "real world" problem, not just a problem which a compulsively literal mind would read into it?
Then I refer you to my previous post.
If one crosses a moat without being invited, in the real world, one might have bigger problems than geometry or compulsive literalism.

The condition of the grass bank probably has a
minimum...ie. the strongest kind of turf will require minimum overlap.

Oh-h-h-h, I must realize these problems are
made to show off our ability with 8th grade geometry. I should have realized that!
