Yes, that's true. Jesus and his followers were Jews. It was a Jewish faith, but they were still in the minority. It was Rome which caused it to spread across Europe--where Christianity flourished.

The way it happened was rather ironic. Who would have thought the Roman Empire would spread the word of a faith they once feared and despised? But not only did they spread it, they embraced it and made it the law of the land. "Ironic" doesn't even come close to describing it. It's mind boggling.
