Why Dick's Argument Around Proper Time Is Misleading

What Dick is saying about time can be applied to space (remember, they're equivalent in relativity). He's basically saying the equivalent that rulers don't measure space, they measure "proper space". He's saying that a ruler that has been shrunk or bent will not measure the same distance measured by a "good" ruler, therefore rulers don't measure space, they measure something else.

Now no physicist will buy that argument (at least no physicist here or on usenet), but some people who don't understand Einstein will. Isn't that strange by itself?

As far as physics is concerned, the only meaningful issue here is, can you run an experiment in which the measurement of a moving clock (or a moving ruler) will not conform to Einstein's predictions? Well, physicists, serious or otherwise, have been trying that for decades, and every single attempt to obtain a measurement that invalidates relativity has failed. Every single one!
