A person's belief system necessarily causes a seeking of common ground with others. Groupthink begins here...it's inevitable.

Since that will not happen by luck, we have our work defined. If education fails to achieve this, education instead creates a monster with a big mean streak. They might try something they think is new and innovative -- with a fifth grader's understanding of history, they might try to take over the world by force again -- and it's all been justified by our education system -- on which we spend $300 billion a year ( lower and "higher" ed).
