A brain does multivariable calculus when chasing a flying baseball.
Most of the universe's mysteries may be discoverable via good "every day calculus" skills combined with good arithmetic, high school algebra, logic, attention span, imagination, and sufficient interest.
It required more math to develop jet airplanes
than to understand Dr. Dick's paper, I'd bet.
