That is only because most people can't grasp the meaning of 'infinite'. When I was in school it always bothered me that 'infinite' was always used in the sense of 'a very big number, much bigger than anything you can imagine'. Nothing could be more misleading! "Forever and a day" may make sense as lyrics to romantic song, but such expressions betray a disregard for logic - which is OK for poets but not for scientists.

If you stop and think what 'infinite' really means, you'll see that any logically correct mathematical relationship involving infinitudes can be verified experimentally. For the simple reason that there are none!
