I agree with you that certain guesses as to what actually will be experienced by a person when they die may lessen the anxiety for that person as the moment approaches.

On the other hand, other guesses, which incidentally are widely believed, might do the opposite. The example I have in mind is the guess that for a vast majority of people, they will move from this earthly life to an eternal life of unimaginably horrible agony and terror. Now, that particular belief, I would think, would terrify the true believer into convulsions as the moment of death approaches.
