Why must the flood story of one society come from the same cultural memory of an event that happened in another hemisphere?
I see you are not feeling entirely freed from under that original dogma (that Noah's flood was EXACTLY as written and that he actually gathered a pair of animals from EVERY CONTINENT, including every crawling bug -- an amazing feat in a few weeks, that would have been.
