*Pure* darwinian evolution, perhaps, is godless...

Haha, I love that kind of stuff. So there's "pure" evolution, and then there's all those other flavors, Baskin Robbins style?

See, "evolution theory" is, well, a theory. The purpose of a theory is to explain facts in terms of simpler facts. God is not a fact, let alone a simple one, so any bastardized interpretation of evolution theory which inserts God back into the picture is not only "impure", it's just not a scientific theory.

...but only a fraction of the believers in evolution are atheists.

Yes, and only a fraction of the believers in heaven are not afraid to die. People seldom realize the full consequences of the ideas in which they believe.

Sure, perhaps the God evolutionist theists believe in is a bit more cold and a bit less omnipresent then the Fundies' warrior creator god, but 'god' can fit almost any definition.

Anyone can say they believe in God, but do they act as if they did? People who believe in a cold, powerless, omniabsent god could just as well believe in Ronald McDonald. Except the word 'god' sounds a lot less goofy for unsuspecting listeners.
