I've known what both escape and terminal velocity are for quite some time and the reason behind one of them. What I'm interested in is the reason the other exists (terminal velocity).

...Not the kind of "terminal velocity" caused by atmosphere either. I'm speaking about the other terminal velocity; the one that is equal to escape velocity. Why is there such a phenomenon?
