The distinction you seem to miss is that religion can not be mandated. Nowhere in the Constitution is a religion mentioned. Last time I checked, "God" is a concept belonging to more than one religion.

The Ten Commandments in government buildings is another story. And although it's technically not "politics," as you say, it does constitute an allusion to a specific religion (actually, two). But the language of the First Amendment is exactly why the presence of the Ten Commandments in govt bldgs is so controversial!

You use a handful of examples in your "argument," but exclude others. For instance, some phrases on our money are written in the Latin language, a language born of a civilization that believed in what we call mythology. Are we to believe the U.S. dollar is telling us that we should pray to Mercury, god of trade and profit? What about the Pyramid and eye on the dollar bill? This is the same imagery Christian fundamentalists once pointed to as satanic in their criticism of pop rock's Alan Parsons Project and their imagery. Is there a tinge of satanism among our treasury department?

Give us a break.
